Overland Park – Whole House Remodel

November 18, 2011

Alli @ 9:52 am

We are well under way with the siding installation on the whole house remodel in Overland Park! The pre-finished, cedar singles from Shakertown came in 8′ lengths which has helped tremendously in cutting down on the amount of time it takes to install. The installation process seems to be going pretty smoothly as the prep work has been minimal. The shingles came already backed with felt paper and 1/2″ plywood and have over-locking end-joints for a seamless appearance. And the blind/concealed nailing creates a true, traditional shingle presentation. Be sure to check out the pictures below!

The roofers finished the new roof on the house and newly finished enlarged garage as well. The new gutters are being installed next week and the guys will also be finishing up the front porch. Check back next week for more updates and pictures!!

Overland Park – Whole House Remodel

November 11, 2011

Alli @ 1:25 pm

We are moving right along on the whole house remodel in Overland Park! This past week the exterior trim around all of the windows, doors and the house was nearly completed. All of the old siding was removed in preparation for the new handcrafted shingle panels, which we are hoping to start next week. We had a bit of a delayed start on the siding due to the weather. The front porch was also started this week as you can see in the pictures below. There are still some details to be finished such as the side railing, the stairs being adjusted, and the front door location being moved slightly towards the left. The use of the thick posts gives the front porch a very defined look and is reminiscent of the arts & crafts time period. The roofers also began working on putting the new roof on this week.  More of the interior demo was completed, in order to reconfigure many of the rooms. More updates and pictures to come next week!

Overland Park – Whole House Remodel

November 8, 2011

Alli @ 4:29 pm

RARE has just started another whole house remodel in Overland Park!! The homeowners had recently purchased the house and are looking to make some updates to the 1941 residence. The plan for the first phase of work  is to replace the small one car garage with a larger two car garage with a new carriage style garage door. As well as replacing all windows and a few doors. Also we will be replacing the siding with Cedar Valley – handcrafted shingle panels. The second phase involves a complete home renovation of an existing bathroom, widening a hallway and re-doing the outdated kitchen.

We have since began the first phase and replaced the one car garage and put up the two car garage. The carriage style garage door which came from Builders Overhead Door was installed last week and can be seen in the picture below. The new cottage style windows from Marvin were also installed last week and the guys are currently working on finishing out the trimming and putting up the new siding. Also happening this week is the start of the new porch which was designed by the homeowner himself. More updates and pictures are to come!!

NW Crooked Road Residence – Basement Bar

Alli @ 4:20 pm

RARE has been working on a few different projects at the residence on NW Crooked Road, these projects include a new bar in the basement and remodeling the master bathroom.

The before and after pictures below show quite a transformation of the bar in the basement. We used Merillat’s Portrait Maple Toffee cabinetry, an under-counter refrigerator and ice machine. We also provided them with enclosed storage for all of the grandchildren’s toys, which was also in the Merillat’s Maple Toffee cabinetry. The Suede Brown Granite counter tops was the most challenging part of the project with its unique shape and design. We were having to work with the existing column at the end of the bar so our solution was to incorporate a 42″ in diameter circle of the Suede Brown Granite to allow for usable space at the end of the counter. The new column from Pacific Columns, Inc. completes the bar’s new look.  New task lighting was also provided in the new soffit to help illuminate that area and show off the new counter tops.

NW Crooked Road Residence – Master Bathroom

Alli @ 4:20 pm

While we were working on the new bar in the basement, the homeowners asked us to remodel their master bathroom as it was out dated and they were hoping for a fresh new look!

We have since demoed the entire space and while we were demoing we found an extra 18″ of space behind where the existing shower was, which was music to our ears! The shower could then become larger in size and provide a lot more room overall in the bathroom for  the homeowners. The new low profile shower base from the Onyx Collection, and a new soaking tub from Ferguson were installed at the beginning of last week.  The new vanity which is Merillat’s Sutton Cliffs Square – Maple Sable provides ample storage for both him and her, was installed last week as well. Both the tub surround and the shower walls were tiled this week along with the floor which was set in a brick pattern. We decided on the racing stripe effect for the  accent tile to give both the shower and tub an interesting look. All of the tile, including the bull nose, which we are using as our base around the bathroom should all be completed by the end of this week. All of the tile used in the master bathroom came from Premier Distributing.

The shower has a unique barrier free design, which helps to save on cost, and to create a visually interesting aesthetic. With the barrier free design we chose to use a low profile shower base from the Onyx Collection. Incorporated into the design is an angled wall with which we placed the shower head facing into the shower and against the back wall to allow for as little water as possible to end up on the outside of the shower since there is no door. On this same wall of the shower we decided to incorporate a partial half wall and use a fixed glass panel. The glass panel will be frame-less with a brushed nickel track that will sit on top of the half wall, to provide light into what was a very dark area. The fabricator for the glass panel is due out sometime next week to install. More updates on the master bathroom are to come, as well as more pictures!

Claycomo Addition

Alli @ 11:05 am

Well we are coming to a close on the addition we put on at the Claycomo residence. We will catch you up with what has happened over the last few weeks. We have been busy finishing the framing and putting sheetrock up, along with the rough-ins for plumbing and electric. Also installing the windows, staining and finishing the trim and base boards for the entire space. The homeowners selected a carmel colored paint color for all of the walls in the kitchen and living room areas. The Merillat Classic – Spring Valley Oak cabinets were set last week, with a minor modification to one of the cabinets in order to install a KitchenAid under-counter electric convection oven.  The New Venitian Gold Granite countertops were installed this week as well as the backsplash tile and click-loc engineered natural bamboo flooring.

We custom designed a pretty neat booth for them, which has 3′ of storage below the seat, in the form of deep pull out drawers to match the cabinets, in order to make the best use of unused space! With Rae’s one good idea for every project, he thought it would be smart to make the base of the seat part of the booth 3″ less than the actual seat to allow for plenty of room for feet. So after much discussion and many drawings later, we designed a very practical seating area. Our original inspiration for the design of the booth came from an interior design blog.  The booth was stained, sealed and installed this week. We ordered an oak, butcher block table top and round, black table base from Missouri Table & Chair.

We have a few more finishing touches that we will keep you all updated on, with  hopes of having the homeowners moved into their new space by the first week of November!!
