Expand your space without a room addition!

Expand your space without a room addition!
Rose @ 10:22 am

During the last several years we have been expanding our client’s homes with room additions. We found that many room additions were done to accommodate either a new, larger kitchen or to build a larger master suite. New homes were larger and had more open floor plans.  Often, the only way to accomplish that look in a smaller home was to add on.

Now, years later and in the present economic times we are designing many projects within the existing foot print of the home.  People are down sizing or deciding to stay where they are.  Rearranging the current space to better suit the family’s needs is what we do today. We have also used “bump outs” 2 feet deep or so to enlarge the space “Just Enough” to accomplish the design. A great reference book we use is called Creating the Not So big House from Sarah Susanka. Her approach is to design the house and each room in it to suit the needs of the individual clients who live in the home.  Her concepts will work in any size house – the idea is to design or remodel the space so it suits your particular needs.  Have fun on her web site- it might just change how you think about where you live.

12 years Remodeling

12 years Remodeling
Rose @ 1:23 pm

Here at Rare Construction, our company has been in remodeling for 12 years.  When we started out in 1999, we  limited our work to just kitchen remodeling and bath remodeling.  About five years into the business, we added room additions.  We found that many room additions were done to expand either a kitchen or a Master Suite. New homes were larger and had more open floor plans. The only way to accomplish that look in a smaller home was to add on.

Now, years later and in the economic times we are in, we are back to staying within the foot print of the home.  Many people are down sizing or deciding to stay where they are.  Rearranging the space to better suit the family’s needs is what we are doing today.  A great reference book we use is from Sarah Susanka and called The Not So big House. We have finally wrapped things up on the Claycomo addition! We at RARE think it came out wonderful and so do the homeowners! Everything from the copper accented backsplash, to the oak cabinetry, to the carmeled colored walls all ties in to make a very warm and inviting space! We did our final clean on Friday, and wrapped up the day with an appreciation  toast given by the homeowners! RARE truly enjoyed working with the homeowners on this really beautiful addition to their home, we couldn’t be more excited for them and we sincerely hope they enjoy their new space!

Claycomo Addition

Alli @ 11:05 am

Well we are coming to a close on the addition we put on at the Claycomo residence. We will catch you up with what has happened over the last few weeks. We have been busy finishiog the framing and putting sheetrock up, along with the rough-ins for plumbing and electric. Also installing the windows, staining and finishing the trim and base boards for the entire space. The homeowners selected a carmel colored paint color for all of the walls in the kitchen and living room areas. The Merillat Classic – Spring Valley Oak cabinets were set last week, with a minor modification to one of the cabinets in order to install a KitchenAid under-counter electric convection oven.  The New Venitian Gold Granite countertops were installed this week as well as the backsplash tile and click-loc engineered natural bamboo flooring.=/p>

We custom designed a pretty neat booth for them, which has 3′ of storage below the seat, in the form of deep pull out drawers to match the cabinets, in order to make the best use of unused space! With Rae’s one good idea for every project, he thought it would be smart to make the base of the seat part of the booth 3″ less than the actual seat to allow for plenty of room for feet. So after much discussion and many drawings later, we designed a very practical seating area. Our original inspiration for the design of the booth came from an interior design blog.  The booth was stained, sealed and installed this week. We ordered an oak, butcher block table top and round, black table base from Missouri Table & Chair.

We have a few more finishing touches that we will keep you all updated on, with  hopes of having the homeowners moved into their new space by the first week of November!!

Our Claycomo Addition

September 13, 2011

admin @ 3:55 pm

Well our Room Addition Project is moving along very nicely as you can see since our last post. We have completed framing.  The roof  is done.   We have the siding and windows installed, and garage floor poured. We expect to have the new zoned furnace and air in tomorrow.  Electrical should be done on Thursday with a tentative rough-in inspection on Friday.  Once the inspection passes, the insulation will be installed and then sheetrock delivered. We are on scheduled to start sheetrock installation next Monday, to be complete by Friday. Change is noticeable quickly at this stage.  Look for more pictures and updates soon.
